Lingsar Hindu Temple
Lingsar Hindu Temple is the biggest and the oldest Hindu Temples in Lombok Island that was built in 1714 A.D by King Anak Agung Ngurah. The temple that is regarded as sacred had been renovated in some parts in 1878 A.D.
It is a symbol of harmony among religious people in Lombok Island for its functions that is not only used by Hindu for praying but also by Moslem people who are included into Wetu Telu ideology. Two buildings, Kemalik (The house of Hindu leader) and Amalik (The house of Hindu promoter), can be found within the temple. In addition, the status of Kemaliq and Amalik are hereditary.
There are some reasons why you must visit the destination. There is holy spring water within the building of the temple. The inhabitants believe that the water contains fate for everyone using it. Moreover, there is a Julit fish whose shape is the same as swamp eel, which is believed that it will be luckiness for everyone who can see it appears above the water surface. Just come to the temple in the 6th month of Balinese calendar or in the 7th month of Sasak calendar (usually in the end of November of December) if you want to know more about the harmony of cross religious among Sasak society. You will see Wetu Telu Moslems and Hindu people celebrate Perang Topat (Topat war). It is kind of ritual intended to show their gratitude for God‘s favor.
