Grojogan Sewu Waterfall is the model of worth visiting tourism destination in Central Java Province for its panoramic view of the nature. Situated on the area of 20 ha, Grojogan Sewu Waterfall is a combination of forest tourism and waterfall. The waterfall is under the management of Lembaga Konservasi SDA – KSDA (Natural Resources Conservation Institution) Bogor.

You will see the beauty of the waterfall which is 81 meters high. The water splashing down from the crag spreads out to every corner of the area. May be, that is the beauty of Grojogan Sewu Waterfall.

May be, you will be shocked with the number of monkeys that are intentionally bred outside the cage. Almost all the monkeys hanging around the location are tame. Just keep your meals during the visit to the location. No matter how you bring some food as your stock during the visit, feeding the monkeys are allowed.

Hundreds of ladderstep leading to the waterfall must be accessed when you are going to reach the bottom of the waterfall. Along the ladder, you can find some gazebos as the right places for you getting tired. You must be careful as there are many big stones when you are about to get close to the bottom of the waterfall. Considering the fast stream of the waterfall, you must avoid taking a bath directly under the waterfall. It is too risk for you, especially for your health. It is just enough for you taking a bath around the bottom of the waterfall that is safer.

Some supporting facilities can also be found there such as two separated pools for adults and children. Around the location, you will see splendid view of hilly land of Tawangmangu Sub-district.

Grojogan Sewu Waterfall Location

Grojogan Sewu Waterfall is located on the slope of Mount Sewu, Tawangmangu Sub-district, Karanganyar District, Central Java Province, Indonesia. You can take either public or private transportation. The cost for taking public transportation is about IDR 7000 (per March 2008) passing by Solo-Tawangmangu route from Tirtonadi bus station in Solo City. It is around 1,5 hours for accessing the location from Solo City.

Having arrived at the location, you need to walk to the location about one km away. Moreover, you can also take public transportation, type L300, with IDR 1000 for its cost. There are two gateways to enter the location, through the first gateway, on the peak of the area, and on the slope of the area. Some supporting facilities such as pool, mini zoo, and playground for children are available there. You can also find some food tent, souvenir shop, mosque, toilet, and fruit stall. Around the gateway, you can find some peddlers offering edelweiss, strawberry, handicraft and horse rentals likewise.

The Tirta Tapta Pemali  Hot Spring is a worth visiting tourism destination in Bangka  district. It was discovered by Banka Tim Winning Bedrijf, B.T.W, the tin  mining company of Dutch colonial government. After the Indonesian`s independence,  it was taken over by the Indonesian government, then was changed into the state  owned tin mining company named Timah Ltd. It was reconstructed and developed  for tourism destination by Timah Ltd in 1970`s. 

The water of the Tirta  Tapta Pemali Hot Spring comes out of the land; it contains sulphur substance.  It is also used for health therapy and relaxation for any kind of diseases.  There was a Thai whose left hand was scratched as he was careless when  operating a tin drilling rig in Bangka  district. After being treated for several times, his injury got well, but he  could not move his hand anymore. Until the day, he submerged into the Tirta  Tapta Pemali Hot Spring for several times. His hand got better gradually. He  had proven the efficacy of the Tirta Tapta Pemali Hot Spring as the right place  for medical treatment.

Cakalele Dance

Cakalele Dance

Cakalele dance is a traditional dance from Maluku Province that is performed by 30 people either male or female. Male dancers wear war clothes dominated by red and yellow color. Not only that, they also hold parang (swords) on the right hand and salawaku (shields) on the left hand and don aluminium hats decorated with slipped feather on it.

Female dancers wear white dresses while holding handkerchiefs – in local language called lenso. During the performance, they play in groups consisting of two dancers while keeping dancing followed by the music of tifa (percussion), flute, and bia (flute made of big sea shell).

Tari Kebesaran, another name of Cakalele Dance is commonly performed to welcome honoured guests such as religious scholars, and government officials visiting Maluku. Tari Kebesaran means the pride dance.

Some of the distinctive features of the dance are the clothes, the swords, and the shield (salawaku). Each of them has its meaning such as red clothes symbolizing heroism, bravery and patriotism of Maluku people. Likewise, the swords symbolize the dignity of Maluku people that must be kept. The last one is the shield (salawaku), the symbol of protest againsts injustice government.

Cakalele Dance can be watched in Haruku Island, Central Maluku District, Maluku Province, Indonesia.Accessing the island from Ambon City, you can take public transportation passing by Tulehu with IDR 7500 for its cost.
